Our History
|
Formerly known as the Phoenix Badminton Club and the Valley Badminton
Club, the Arizona Badminton Club (a member of USA Badminton) was
founded in early 1980's to introduce and promote the sport of
badminton to the Phoenix community.
Club members meet every Tuesday night at the Independence High
School gym to play pick-up games and exchange badminton information.
Members are required to bring their own equipment (i.e., racquets
and shuttlecocks) to participate in games. The club hosts two annual
open tournaments: the Grand Canyon State Games in the summer and
the Arizona Smash Bash Doubles Tournament in the fall.
On May 21, 2005, we lost our beloved founder and most enthusiastic
supporter. Henry "Hank" Anders Anderssohn Jr. passed away peacefully
with his family and friends at his bedside. He remained committed
to promoting badminton in Arizona until the end. We will miss his
guidance, leadership and friendship terribly.
